Rats Back composites began designing and building Miata parts in 2001 in Atlanta, GA, created by; Jeff Soileau, Shane Garner and myself, Trevor Soileau.  We first began with the design of the first carbon fiber front lip spoiler for the first generation Mazda Miata (1990-97).  The Mazda Miata is the most popular and most sold sports car in the world, with that number recently reaching 800,000.  Rats Back in the early days was known as "Rats Back Racing"* or just "Rats Back".   You probably saw us at "Miata's at the Gap" in North Carolina, displaying, selling and installing carbon front lips, or at the Rspeed open house that same year.  You could order from our website in 2002 at either www.ratsback.com or www.ratsbackracing.com*.  *In the past few years someone unrelated to us acquired the "ratsbackracing.com" domain name,  so for the record this is no longer our site and we are not affiliated with it.  We are now just ratsback.com

So who is rats back carbon composites?

For a number of reasons we shut down the rats back shop to pursue other things, jobs, locations, etc.  Being the head designer I was left with the whole ball of wax.  When I relocated to the Washington D.C. area,  with my car enthusiast friend Dave,  I produced a limited number of parts when I had the chance.

"Carbon fiber? I invented carbon fiber" ("O'brother where art thou" modified quote.)

Recently Rats Back has begun its new phase of design, focusing on the second generation Miata, known as the NB (1999-2005).  Our parts are currently being designed off a 2001 Miata. I just completed the new NB front lip spoiler (see pics) and a 2/3rd size trunk tray.  Next on the schedule will be side skirts and a rear piece(s) to finish out the package.
